Beginnings
This work begins with your choice to seek change. Your willingness to be curious is a precious first step. Sharing this meaningful and important process with you is a privilege I take very seriously.
Discovering Together:
While many psychotherapists focus on what you might be hiding from yourself and others, we focus on what you are seeking: The creative, collaborative work of therapy more clearly defines your unmet wishes and needs. Inevitably we explore some internalized patterns and stories from your past as they emerge in the present, but our central focus is the generative and rich possibilities of your future.
Building Strengths:
It's difficult to be human. We all have challenges that inhibit our becoming. I see much of our work as building psychic strength- strengthening those habits of mind that help us self-regulate better and feel better. It’s muscle building! Neuroscience shows that better practices have the ability to create substantive changes in our brains. As the saying goes, “Neurons that fire together, wire together." Living a more joyful and vital life is a natural outgrowth of our work together.
Independence:
Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps us feel more free. Research shows that unlike in other types of therapy, patients in psychodynamic psychotherapy continue to improve and grow even after treatment has ended. This is due to the transformative power of the work. We address your whole emotional self, not just the symptom in the foreground.
